OUR HOME ED ETHOS
Our Guiding Principles – Supporting Growth, Not Grades
Meaningful Learning
At TechBloq, we believe education should be hands-on, meaningful and tailored with each individual child in mind. We provide the core topic learning (English and Maths) as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) in a nurturing, engaging environment – where curiosity is sparked and confidence is built to last.
We Meet Children Where They Are
Every child is unique, with their own pace, strengths and challenges. That’s why we work hard to meet each learner where they are – whether they need extra support, want to be challenged, or simply prefer a different way to engage.
We focus on engagement and steady progress. This approach helps your child build a solid foundation, gaining confidence and skills that last a lifetime – not just quick wins that fizzle out.
Whilst we don’t believe in rushing or pushing children into accelerated programmes that can sacrifice understanding for speed, we understand that some parents value measurable academic progress and we aim to meet that need without compromising confidence or long-term planning.
Learning that Sticks
We move beyond worksheets and tests to deliver real-world STEAM projects – like 3D printing and hands-on design challenges – that make learning fun, practical and memorable. These experiences don’t just build knowledge; they develop critical thinking, creativity and the confidence to try, fail and try again.
Flexible but Focused
Home education thrives on flexibility, but that doesn’t mean learning should be inconsistent. Our Key Stage 1 & 2 sessions follow structured, curriculum-aligned pathways designed to support steady growth – balancing freedom with clear academic goals. This helps children thrive without losing the joy of discovery.
Learning that Grows with Them
At TechBloq, we believe education for ages 11–14 should move beyond memorisation and test scores. While we recognise the importance of securing key qualifications like GCSEs – and offer tuition classes in core subjects to support this learning – we believe that too much weight in the UK curriculum is placed on test results as a measure of intelligence. Rather, they mostly reflect recall, not real understanding or application. Consequently, deeply intelligent and creative children won’t necessarily flourish under exam conditions.
Moreover, this overemphasis on testing can create a false sense of confidence that assessments mirror real-world expectations. Whereas success in the workplace depends on applying knowledge – through critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving – not just passing timed tests.
That’s why we’ve moved away from purely focusing on the National Curriculum for our KS3 Home Education sessions and created our own purposeful, open-ended projects. These experiences nurture critical thinking, meta-cognition, entrepreneurial approaches, curiosity and resilience – skills that reflect how young people will actually be expected to perform as working adults.
Confidence through Community
Social interaction is vital. Our small-group sessions foster collaboration, friendship and communication skills. Children learn alongside peers who share their curiosity and enthusiasm in a safe, supportive setting.
Support for Parents Too
We don’t just support your child – we support you. Our team provides expert guidance tailored to the home-education journey, so you feel empowered and confident in your child’s learning path.
Whole-Child Growth
To empower home-educated children with the skills, knowledge and self-belief they need to thrive – in learning, in work and in life.
Whether your child needs space to build confidence, express creativity or discover how they learn best, we’re here to nurture their growth, step by step.
